Store Assistant Manager

About the role

Full-time position with flexible shift availability including days, evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide and coach staff on excellent customer service; greet customers, assist with purchases, and resolve issues.
• Operate cash register accurately, handle payments, and perform multi-function tasks on fuel console, lottery machines, money order machine, and telecom transactions.
• Maintain store facility condition: sweep/mop floors, dust windows, clean bathrooms, dispose of trash, and clean equipment such as coffee machines and refrigeration units.
• Monitor and stock product areas to ensure freshness, appeal, and accessibility; prepare inventory orders and update pricing/signage per company guidelines.
• Ensure accurate shift sales entry, cash handling, and banking; troubleshoot daily close-outs and discrepancies; complete daily bookkeeping and gasoline data transmission.
• Oversee staff activities, schedule employees, and perform shift supervision; assume Store Manager responsibilities when needed.
• Train and evaluate staff performance; assist with counseling, hiring, and mentoring.
• Maintain a safe environment; report incidents, theft, or unsafe conditions to management.
• Prepare sales, product, and operating reports; assist with inventory control and shift audits.
• Perform end-of-shift duties including cash drawer counts and shift change reports.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 months to 1 year of retail and management experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basic business and customer service principles including planning, organizing, resource management, and leadership.
• Ability to communicate clearly and handle customer issues using standard procedures.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, arrive on time, and operate cash registers, scanners, beverage dispensers, and other equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation required.
• Ability to work opposite shifts of the Store Manager and maintain open availability.

Physical Requirements

• Exposure to cold or warm temperature extremes, including occasional work in walk-in cooler/freezer and outdoors.
• Occasional lifting and/or carrying up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead and up to 50 pounds from ground to waist.
• Grasp, reach, and manipulate objects with hands for the entire shift; eye-hand coordination required.
• Push/pull with arms up to 20 pounds; reach overhead; bend, twist, stoop, kneel, squat, and climb ladders.
• Stand and/or walk for an entire shift; exposed to occasional noise.

Work Environment

• Approximately 95% of work performed indoors; may include cleaning parking lots, gas pumps, and taking out garbage.
• Exposure to extreme cold temperatures in walk-in cooler/freezer and occasional noise.
• Work with minimal direction and periodic supervision.

Pay

Hiring range: $17.05 to $19.85 per hour.
