About the role
The Senior Storage Administrator supports a large enterprise IT contract for the Department of Defense. This role requires extensive experience in storage engineering, system administration, and operations.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and administer enterprise storage systems including Dell and NetApp filers and Dell PowerProtect/Data Domain systems
- Install, configure, and administer Veritas NetBackup server and client software
- Create and secure SMB file shares
- Coordinate with server administrators to create, secure, and mount NFS exports
- Develop and implement Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations plans
- Develop and maintain system documentation and procedures
- Manage and administer Linux and Windows servers in support of storage operations
- Troubleshoot and resolve backup job failures
- Manage Distributed File System (DFS) namespaces
- Configure NetBackup policies
- Coordinate with vCenter administrators to provision Storage Area Network (SAN) resources
- Configure and manage volume snapshots
- Aid customers with point-in-time file restores
- Schedule and monitor volume replication for disaster recovery
- Monitor health and availability of infrastructure applications and systems
- Work with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software failures
- Coordinate with Change Management to deconflict and schedule hardware maintenance activities, system and firmware updates, and other configuration changes
- Execute system changes during scheduled maintenance windows
- Monitor and evaluate system performance and capacity trends
- Resolve tier 2 and tier 3 service requests
- Identify opportunities to automate operations
- Mentor junior team members
- Update operations and maintenance documentation
- Provide follow-up reports for Root Cause Analysis, engineering technical assessment, and process improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Extensive experience administering enterprise-level data storage systems (Dell Storage Center, Dell Compellent, NetApp, and Data Domain)
- Demonstrated understanding of SAN administration, including provisioning of LUNs, managing fiber channel zoning, and mapping storage to servers
- NAS administration, including NFS and SMB file sharing
- Integration with VMWare ESX Server
- Data migration strategies
- Snapshots, Volume replication
- Managing file and share permissions in an Active Directory environment
- Storage monitoring and performance tuning
- Strong experience managing and administering Veritas NetBackup systems and backup schedules
- Experience with scripting technologies such as PowerShell
- Experience administering Linux based operating systems
- Experience with Distributed File System (DFS)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to mentor junior team members
- Experience working independently to support a 24/7/365 mission environment
- Experience contributing to deliverables and meeting performance metrics
- Experience coordinating with senior management and customers
- Track record of working effectively within a team, and support to peers toward improved processes and results
- Experience with IT Service Management (ITSM) ticketing systems such as ServiceNow
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field with at least 8 years of prior relevant experience
- Masters with 6 years of prior relevant experience
- Associate's with 10 years of prior relevant experience
- High School Diploma with 12 years of prior relevant experience
- At a minimum, meet DoDM 8140.03 (previously DoD 8570) – IT System Admin Intermediate certification requirements (Cloud+, GICSP, SSCP, Security+ CE, GSEC, or higher)
