About the role

The Samuel Z. Stone Chair in Economics is a tenured position starting in August 2026. This role is a joint appointment between the Economics Department and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in Latin American economics
• Conduct research on the economies of Latin America and their impact on the United States and the Gulf South
• Disseminate knowledge about Latin American economies through publications and presentations
• Provide leadership in building research initiatives among faculty members with economics doctorates
• Contribute to the university's efforts to deepen economic ties between Louisiana and Latin American countries
• Advocate for the importance of Latin American studies within the broader academic community

Requirements

• PhD in Economics
• Outstanding research record in Latin American economics
• Strong teaching credentials
• Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders including policymakers, students, and the general public
