STG - Staff Specialist - Medical Oncologist - 0.4FTE - PPT

Permanent part-time role (16 hours per week) for an experienced and motivated Medical Oncologist with a subspecialty interest in genitourinary and breast oncology to join our team in a high-volume, comprehensive cancer centre.

About the role

This is an opportunity to contribute to a service known for excellence in patient care, clinical leadership, and research. You will provide expert care focusing on patients with breast and genitourinary malignancies, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and work closely with specialist nurses, allied health, radiation oncology, haematology, palliative care, and clinical trials staff.

The role involves inpatient and outpatient care, supervision of trainees, clinical trial leadership, and active engagement in quality improvement and service development. You will be joining a supportive environment with opportunities for professional growth and meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

You will be based at St George Hospital with on-call and inpatient commitments across both St George and Sutherland Hospitals. The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).

Responsibilities

• Provide expert medical assessment and management of patients with breast and genitourinary cancers
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings
• Supervise trainees
• Lead and engage in clinical trials
• Contribute to quality improvement and service development
• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and other hospital staff
• Model high standards of professional behaviour to junior medical and dental staff
• Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team across multiple sites
• Engage in research relevant to the role and needs of the department

Requirements

• Registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination
• Demonstrated subspecialty training and/or experience in Breast and Genitourinary Oncology
• Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position
• Proven capacity and/or experience in providing high-quality service in the specialty, including participation in quality improvement activities
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students and other hospital staff
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team
• Demonstrated commitment to providing a high standard of clinical care in the public sector
• Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the department
