About the role
Brown v. Board of Education National Historical Park, an AmeriCorps Program, seeks a Stewards VISTA to support the preservation, interpretation, and sharing of the history and lasting significance of the 1954 Supreme Court decision that ended legal school segregation. The member will engage visitors, educators, and local partners in learning about this pivotal moment in American history.
Responsibilities
- Research school districts within a two-hour drive of the park to prepare outreach plans.
- Develop communication plans for staff to engage with the "Brown Five" communities.
- Create new interpretive materials, such as historical research for text for signs, web pages, brochures, or tour plans.
- Contribute to projects across the breadth of the Brown v. Board of Education decisions and their legacies in American history since 1954.
Requirements
- United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
- College graduate.
- Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
Qualifications
- Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ability to safely drive an organizational vehicle may also be required for some positions.
Skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with digital media production and website development.
Benefits
- Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $7,395.00 or choice of cash stipend of ~$1,800.00.
- Living Allowance of $68.39 per day, disbursed every 2 weeks.
