Steward-Part Time

About the role

The Lakefront Anchorage Hotel, formerly known as the Millennium Hotel, is seeking a part-time Steward to join its team. Located on the shores of scenic Lake Spenard, one mile from Anchorage International Airport and four miles from downtown Anchorage, the hotel offers 248 rooms and three outstanding food and beverage outlets.

Responsibilities

• Sort soiled ware promptly and carefully so it can be put through the dish or pot machine properly.
• Quickly wash all ware and replace in storage areas as designated.
• Keep dish machine properly cleaned and filled with water per hotel standards.
• Polish silver for proper appearance after cleaning.
• Check station before, during and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness.
• Clean kettles, tilt skillets, pots and pans promptly and completely so cooks can carry out their work.
• Empty all trash in service areas at predetermined times and upon request from the manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested by management.
• Separate linen from other debris.
• Perform general /routine cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere to health standards.
• Clean and dry floors to avoid slip/fall accidents.
• Move supplies and equipment, clean up spills, etc.

Requirements

• Ability to push/pull service carts fully loaded with soiled ware.
• Read the English language to fully comprehend job requests, caution notices and similar written materials.
• Grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move or push goods on a hand cart/truck weighing a maximum of 50 lbs.
• Work area may be humid and wet. Temperatures sufficient to cause bodily discomfort are possible in dish area of hotel.
• Frequent interruptions are likely. The ability to change tasks frequently and easily is required.
• Patience, tact and diplomacy.
• Must have a valid food handlers' card.
• Work as a productive team member by contributing positive energy.
• Perform the duties of the position in a safe manner.
• Be professional in all interactions with associates.

Qualifications

• Previous stewarding (dishwashing & kitchen cleaning) experience preferred but not necessary.
• Prior hospitality experience preferred.

Skills

• Physical strength and stamina are essential due to the high activity level.
