About the Role
Hotel Daphne seeks an enthusiastic Steward to join the team. A Steward/Dishwasher exceeds expectations by completing tasks that include but are not limited to cleaning dishes, kitchen, food preparation equipment, and utensils. This position works closely with both the front of house and back of house teams to ensure customer satisfaction. The person in this position must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict, and a thorough understanding of Bunkhouse policies.
All Bunkhouse employees are expected to greet all guests and make each feel important by providing a genuine welcome. Furthermore, Dishwashers must develop and maintain the company’s culture, values, and reputation in the public eye, and with all staff, guests, vendors, and partners. Dishwashers must promote the Bunkhouse Vision in all actions and decisions.

Located in the charming Houston Heights neighborhood, Hotel Daphne is the latest project from Austin’s acclaimed hospitality group Bunkhouse Hotels. With 49 rooms, it’s an inviting escape in a residential neighborhood on the rise. Hotel Daphne features an all-day restaurant and bar, a library/small private events space, and a lobby retail shop signature to the Bunkhouse brand.
Tucked into the heart of Houston Heights, our full-service Italian restaurant and lounge offers an elevated escape—serving aperitivo-style cocktails and housemade pasta. A true neighborhood gathering spot, we feature a roving tableside mozzarella cart, lumache alla vodka, squid ink radiatori, Duroc pork Milanese, and pistachio pie. Responsibilities
- Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos, and verbal instruction
- Bus dining room and patio. Keep tables clear of dishes and food remnants
- Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and/or pans using dishwashers or by hand
- Place clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in storage areas
- Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition
- Stock supplies such as food and utensils in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and salad bars
- Sweep and scrub floors
- Clean garbage cans with water or steam
- Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas
- Assist in unloading deliveries (food and supplies)
- Ensure open lines of communication via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the restaurant are met
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition
- Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property
- Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements
- Attend relevant meetings
- Perform a multitude of different functions as needed based on fluctuating demands of the operation to exceed customer expectations
- Perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed
Requirements
- Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry
- Ability to work primarily afternoons and evenings, with flexibility to work mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or guests
