About the Role
Serenely located within the historic Kansas City Club building, The Hotel Kansas City combines old-world charm with modern luxury, offering 144 guest rooms, inventive dining, nightlife, and 20,000 square feet of meeting space. As a Steward or Dishwasher, you will maintain the cleanliness of all hotel china, silverware, and cookware in a fast-paced environment with constant customer interaction.
Responsibilities
- Operate pot-washing and dish-washing machines.
- Maintain a hygienic working environment in accordance with hygiene regulations and company standards.
- Carry out general cleaning as directed, including sweeping, mopping, washing, wiping down, and emptying trash receptacles.
- Clean coolers, freezers, and back hallways.
- Ensure all kitchen and back-of-house areas are kept clean, with equipment stored properly and cleaned per the schedule.
- Observe Health, Hygiene & Safety guidelines when handling hazardous substances.
- Report maintenance and hazard issues to the supervisor on duty.
- Maintain kitchen supplies of china, glasses, and silverware.
- Assist the kitchen in plating and dishing menu orders when needed.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalency preferred but not required.
- Good working knowledge of accepted sanitation standards.
- 1-2 years of stewarding experience preferred.
- Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to speak and understand English to communicate with colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations during busy periods.
Work Environment
- Make continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements.
- Bend or stoop repeatedly, such as when removing items from stoves, ovens, refrigerators, or freezers.
- Clean work areas and equipment using brooms, mops, sponges, cleaning solutions, and other materials.
- Move objects between 20-50 lbs. short distances.
- Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and on-the-job training.
- Work in a team environment.
- Stand, walk, and perform essential job functions continuously for extended periods.
