Responsibilities
- Perform delegated activities to support the operating room team in the care of the surgical patient as well as procedural areas within the hospital.
- Decontamination, assembly, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable instruments and equipment for surgical and other procedures.
- Cleaning, packaging and re-processing of re-usable surgical equipment, instrumentation and scopes per manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Maintaining inventory and storage of processed supplies.
- Supporting the needs of the surgical team through activities in the sterile core.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of one year of instrumentation experience OR successful completion of a vocational program for Central Service with full (not provisional) Central Service Technician certification is required.
- One year of instrumentation experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge is required.
- Good interpersonal skills are essential.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and the ability to receive and give constructive feedback are required.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, being concise by phone and in person, are required.
- A Central Service Technician certification is required within one year of hire.
- Additional experience and/or qualifications may be evaluated for Sterile Processing Technician II consideration based on demonstrated advanced skill competency and complex job knowledge.
