Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician plays a key role in ensuring safe, high quality surgical care by performing instrument decontamination, assembly, and sterilization in accordance with infection control standards, industry guidelines, and regulatory requirements. This role does not provide direct patient care.

Essential Functions

  • Processes specialty and general instruments and resets instrument sets accurately.
  • Cleans and decontaminates instruments and equipment following established procedures.
  • Prepares and assembles surgical trays and equipment based on established tray listings.
  • Maintains stock levels within the Central Sterile Department.
  • Identifies and reports instrument repair needs to the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Credentials: CRCST certification (HSPA) preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Case cart assembly
  • Regulatory standards for materials management

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, walking, lifting (35+ lbs with assistance), carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, and consistent visual and auditory acuity.
