About the role

The Sterile Processing Technician I will provide quality processed materials and equipment for safe patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Follows Standard Work in the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and sterile storage areas to properly handle instruments/equipment to provide safe patient care.
  • Utilizes instrument/equipment manufacturer’s instructions for use when necessary.
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with other staff in the department, as well as other units.
  • Represents the department and hospital in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Attend and participate in departmental in-services, huddles, and meetings.
  • Understand key quality measures and demonstrate willingness to participate in problem solving and performance improvement activities.
  • Assist, of necessary, with the orientation of new employees.
  • Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility, prioritization, and critical thinking skills in performance of duties.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and maintains competency of standard work / key work processes.
  • Applies principles of microbiology, disinfection, sterilization, and modes of disease transmission to promote an infection free environment.
  • Uses proper body mechanics when moving or transferring items to prevent injury to self or others.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Protects patient privacy and follows hospital/departments policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates willingness to accept non-routine work assignments as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • High School education or GED required.
  • Must become central sterile processing certified within 18 months of hire to maintain employment.
  • Must be able to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of the medical staff.
  • Prior experience in the medical/surgical field or manufacturing preferred.
