About the role

The Sterile Processing Technician I reports to the Nurse Manager. Under general supervision of the department manager, shift supervisor or designee, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination
  • Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Detail-oriented required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as SPD Tech
  • Certification from certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution)

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience as SPD Tech
  • Certification from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management)

  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working outside in temperature extremes, working from elevated areas, working in confined/cramped spaces, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, performing pinching operations, performing gross motor activities with fingers and hands, performing firm grasping with fingers and hands, performing fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reaching overhead, performing repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, using both legs, using lower extremities for balance and coordination, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, lifting/lowering objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lifting from 36" to overhead 25 lbs., exerting up to 50 lbs. of force, maintaining 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes, determining distance/relationship between objects; depth perception, maintaining good olfactory sensory function, being qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required, maintaining tactile sensory functions, dealing effectively with stressful situations, working rotating shifts, working overtime as required, working in a latex safe environment
