About the role

Provides the facility with services in the areas of supply processing and distribution. Sterile processing has five major areas: Decontamination, processing (inspection, assembly and packaging), Sterilizing, Sterile Storage, and distribution.

Core duties and responsibilities

• Provide exceptional patient care by providing prompt, accurate service
• Provide supplies of sterile linen packs, basins, instrument trays, and other sterile items
• Maintain accurate records of cleaning, disinfection, and the sterilization processes
• Monitor and enforce controls necessary to prevent cross-contamination according to infection control policies
• Establish and maintain sterile processing standards
• Implement changes as needed to stay current with new regulations and recommended practices
• Review current practices for possible improvements in quality of services provided
• Provide services to other departments in all areas of sterile processing

Physical requirements

• MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK)
• Bend, stoop, reach, stand, walk for an 8-12 hour shift
• Lift up to 60 pounds and push loaded carts weighting in excess of 200 pounds

Working environment

• High pressure steam, chemical, electrical, mechanical, bio-waste, stress, back strain, body fluids, etc
• Variations in temperature, noise, odors, multi-stimuli, etc
• Extended periods of time wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the hospital
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to perform in emergency or stressful situations
• Able to perform as a part of a team as well as independently
