About the role

The Sterile Processing Technician will play a crucial role in the development of outpatient care at VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion, a state-of-the-art facility set to open in April 2027. This position involves decontaminating surgical instruments, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining a clean, safe environment.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminates surgical instruments and sterilizes equipment according to protocols.
  • Assembles and distributes case carts according to count sheets.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Assists in interviewing and hiring new employees as needed.
  • Supervises and trains new employees.
  • Maintains sterilization equipment and monitors its performance.
  • Serves as a liaison with the main campus Central Sterile operation.

Requirements

  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration: Certification as a Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST), Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or Surgical Tech certification (CST or TS-C or CORST).
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration: Current CRCST, CSPDT, CST, TS-C, or CORST Certification.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years sterile processing experience.
  • Experience: Previous experience with a personal computer.
  • Experience: Previous supervisory, management, or leadership experience.
  • Education: High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management, Business Administration, or closely related field preferred.
  • Education: Completion of IAHCSMM curriculum preferred.

Qualifications

  • Physical abilities to lift 20-50 lbs., stand for prolonged periods, bend frequently, walk, and climb steps.

Benefits

The position offers a $10,000.00 sign-on bonus for offers accepted by May 31, 2026, subject to terms and conditions.

Pay

$40.00 - $45.00/hour based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays may be required.
