About the role
The Manager Sterile Processing oversees the daily operation of the department responsible for sterilizing medical equipment and instruments to comply with safety standards. This role organizes all services and personnel in the sterile processing department, including coordination of activities involved in the acquisition, decontamination, storage, assembly, cleaning, and sterilization of medical, surgical, and related supplies, materials, and equipment used in patient care.
Responsibilities
- Oversees all sterilization processes and staff training to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and safety standards.
- Ensures processes, inventory, equipment, training, and procedures are maintained to support instrumentation and sterilization needs, exceeding service and quality expectations.
- Monitors the condition of instruments and equipment to ensure cost-effective utilization, coordinating repairs and timely replacements as needed.
- Supervises sterilization staff relations, including performance management, training, certification, staff satisfaction, and conflict management.
- Manages various personnel actions, including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, and transfers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate's degree (required).
- 5 years of experience in sterile processing, operating rooms, or a similar setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of decontamination and sterilization sciences, case cart systems, and medical/surgical supplies and equipment.
Qualifications
- Current certification as a Sterile Processing Tech, Certified Surgical Tech, or Certified Nurse Operating Room (required).
