Sterile Processing Instrument and Device Coordinator

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, this role oversees the management, tracking, quality assurance, and lifecycle of surgical instruments and reusable medical devices. The coordinator ensures timely availability of instruments across all supported locations and collaborates with Sterile Processing, Operating Room coordinators, and leadership to maintain compliance, efficiency, and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate instrument flow and vendor tray logistics.
• Maintain compliance with sterilization principles, microbiology, and infection prevention practices.
• Ensure knowledge of instrument names, functions, and specialty sets.
• Utilize strong organizational and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Perform basic computer documentation and recordkeeping.
• Travel may be required.
• Participate in holiday work and emergency management/disaster team activities.

Requirements

• Graduate of high school or GED equivalency.
• Certified and maintain certification in sterile processing from CRCST – HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution).
• Minimum of two (2) years of sterile processing experience in sterile processing and/or Operating Room.
• Knowledge of sterilization principles, microbiology, and infection prevention practices.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer proficiency for documentation and recordkeeping.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare environment.
• Detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced certification (CIS, CER, CHL) preferred.
• Previous supervisory, leadership, and/or education experience.
• Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems.
• Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) and/or Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) certification.
• At least three (3) years of experience in sterile processing and/or leadership role.
