About the role
The Sterile Processing Coordinator coordinates and assigns processing services efficiently, ensuring timely decontamination and reprocessing of instruments and supplies. They serve as a resource for staff, maintaining consistent workflow between the operating room and Sterile Processing.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a role model and mentor, facilitating teamwork with OR staff.
- Communicates actively and positively with all interprofessional health care team members.
- Coordinates daily interactions between Sterile Processing, Surgery, and Materials Management.
- Anticipates and prepares supplies for upcoming surgeries.
- Maintains appropriate staffing levels to ensure excellent service.
- Monitors and tracks instrumentation accurately.
- Ensures compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Collaborates with Materials Management to identify and order non-sterile items.
- Identifies and implements practice changes for professional growth.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Six years of Sterile Processing experience in an acute care hospital.
- Required certifications: Sterile Processing certification (CSCST or CSPDT), Instrument Specialist certification (CIS or CSIS).
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
- Speaks, reads, and writes English proficiently.
- Operates and trains staff on departmental equipment.
- Utilizes basic computer programs.
- Adheres to departmental and institutional policies and protocols.
- Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
- Knowledgeable in infection control, decontamination, and sterilization techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of sterilization processes and internal/external monitoring systems.
- Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office and electronic instrument tracking systems.
