Sterile Processing Coordinator

About the role

The Sterile Processing Coordinator coordinates and assigns processing services efficiently, ensuring timely decontamination and reprocessing of instruments and supplies. They serve as a resource for staff, maintaining consistent workflow between the operating room and Sterile Processing.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a role model and mentor, facilitating teamwork with OR staff.
• Communicates actively and positively with all interprofessional health care team members.
• Coordinates daily interactions between Sterile Processing, Surgery, and Materials Management.
• Anticipates and prepares supplies for upcoming surgeries.
• Maintains appropriate staffing levels to ensure excellent service.
• Monitors and tracks instrumentation accurately.
• Ensures compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Collaborates with Materials Management to identify and order non-sterile items.
• Identifies and implements practice changes for professional growth.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Six years of Sterile Processing experience in an acute care hospital.
• Required certifications: Sterile Processing certification (CSCST or CSPDT), Instrument Specialist certification (CIS or CSIS).

• Operates and trains staff on departmental equipment.
• Utilizes basic computer programs.
• Adheres to departmental and institutional policies and protocols.

• Knowledgeable in infection control, decontamination, and sterilization techniques.
• Advanced knowledge of sterilization processes and internal/external monitoring systems.
• Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office and electronic instrument tracking systems.
