This is a trainee position subject to the terms and conditions of the Sterile Processing Tech Apprenticeship program. The goal of the program is to prepare staff for a future career as a Sterile Processing Tech.

Responsibilities

  • Proper care and handling of all general and specialty instruments, including cleaning, decontamination, instrument identification, assembly, quality inspection, function testing, packaging, distribution, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation.
  • Decontaminates, assembles, and packages all instruments following established protocols, as well as performs necessary repairs, reassembles, and stores specialized surgical instruments.
  • Prepares all order requests for replacement parts for instruments and additional equipment as necessary or upon request of physicians.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices.
  • Dons proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follows protocols for the decontamination process referencing Instructions for Use (IFU) supplied by manufacturers.
  • Identifies instruments for all specialties and ensures proper function; follows protocol for repair or replacement of instruments that are not functioning properly.
  • Assembles and packages all instrumentation and sets according to department protocol.
  • Utilizes equipment according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and hospital policy.
  • Operates steam autoclaves and Hydrogen Peroxide sterilizers.
  • Maintains appropriate logs and records relating to the sterilization process, including Sterilizer Load Records and Biological Monitoring Records.
  • Responds to service recovery calls from the Operating Room and performs preliminary investigation.
  • Determines priority level of instrumentation and equipment requests and other hospital needs.
  • Directs services in a competent and professional manner while ensuring OR priorities are completed in a timely manner.
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
  • Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors each day.
  • Must sign the Sterile Processing Tech Apprentice program agreement and consent to all terms and conditions outlined in the document.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate, and reassemble.
  • Problem-solving skills for incomplete trays and missing instrumentation.
  • Effective organizational, communication, and human relation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Pay

$20 hourly wage with shift differentials:

  • $2.00/hr for weekends
  • $2.50/hr for evenings
  • $6.00/hr for night decontamination

Additional compensation includes annual increases and paid time off.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM, with rotating weekend days and holidays.
