Responsibilities

• Plan a STEM program involving demonstration, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organize laboratory activities for optimum learning.
• Demonstrate STEM concepts using apparatus, experiments, and instructional aids such as charts and sketches.
• Provide individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs and accommodate simultaneous projects and experiments.
• Instruct students on the proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, STEM equipment, and plant and animal life.
• Ensure safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools; make minor adjustments and request repairs as needed.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class, lab sessions, and field trips.
• Evaluate each student’s growth in knowledge, skills, and STEM attitudes in the course being taught.
• Communicate with parents on student progress.
• Ensure high academic standards are set for and met by all students.
• Develop and execute a rigorous standards-based curriculum.
• Differentiate curriculum, instruction, and individualized learning plans to meet student needs.
• Use student performance data from teacher-created and standardized assessments to drive instructional decisions.
• Demonstrate the academic progress of students under your leadership and articulate the methods used to achieve those results.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (required).
• Valid Illinois Professional Education License (PEL) or equivalent (required).
• Valid Illinois K-9 self-contained endorsement or equivalent (required).
• Valid Illinois Middle School Science endorsement or equivalent (required).
• 9 college credits in Math (required).
• Residency in Chicago is not required.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States (required).

Pay

Salary range: $64,480 - $77,329

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Ability to operate standard business office equipment.
• Ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile, and prepare work documents.
• Physical demands include standing, bending, reaching, stooping, and walking around the classroom for 60% of the day, as well as walking up and down stairs several times daily.
• Must be able to lift 15 to 20 pounds for short periods and push or pull 15 to 20 pounds.
• Majority of work performed in a general school environment.
• Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours to perform job duties, including participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
