We power the transition to a sustainable future by delivering reliable energy solutions to the University of Iowa campus. As a Steam Fitter I, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the distribution systems that keep buildings warm, water flowing, and operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and install distribution piping systems for steam, condensate, chilled water, domestic water, and compressed air
- Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, fans, air compressors, expansion joints, traps, gauges, and valves
- Operate and troubleshoot steam pressure reducing stations to ensure safe and reliable performance
- Execute lockout and tag out procedures on equipment and distribution systems
- Operate distribution valves for system shutdowns, startups, and repairs while protecting equipment and co-workers
- Inspect and clean distribution structures, utility equipment, and facilities across all areas of the utility network
- Maintain safe working conditions in compliance with site rules and local, state, and federal regulations
Requirements
- A minimum education level of a High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in mechanical system maintenance, steam fitting, plumbing, or heating
- Knowledge of safe work procedures in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and extreme temperatures
Qualifications
- Additional Details: This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis. Must be available to travel up to 10% of the time. Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; to drive company-owned vehicles while on campus. Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs.). 24-hour emergency on-call responsibilities, must have a personal cell phone. Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.
Skills
This role requires a combination of technical skills and safety awareness. Specific skills include knowledge of steam fitting, plumbing, and electrical systems, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay
The hourly range for this position is $24.38 - $33.00 USD. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
Schedule
This role consists of 75% outdoor work. Employees must be available to work shifts that may require frequent travel and 24-hour emergency on-call responsibilities.
