We power the transition to a sustainable future by delivering reliable energy solutions to the University of Iowa community. As a Steam Fitter I, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the distribution systems that keep the university's buildings operational.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and install distribution piping systems for steam, condensate, chilled water, domestic water, and compressed air
- Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, fans, air compressors, expansion joints, traps, gauges, and valves
- Operate and troubleshoot steam pressure reducing stations to ensure safe and reliable performance
- Execute lockout and tag out procedures on equipment and distribution systems
- Operate distribution valves for system shutdowns, startups, and repairs while protecting equipment and co-workers
- Inspect and clean distribution structures, utility equipment, and facilities across all areas of the utility network
- Maintain safe working conditions in compliance with site rules and local, state, and federal regulations
Requirements
- A minimum education level of a High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in mechanical system maintenance, steam fitting, plumbing, or heating
- Knowledge of safe work procedures in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and extreme temperatures
Qualifications
- Additional Details: This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis. Must be available to travel up to 10% of the time. Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; to drive company-owned vehicles while on campus. Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs.). 24-hour emergency on-call responsibilities, must have a personal cell phone. Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.
Skills
- Hands-on experience with steam fitting and related systems
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and utilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in using tools and equipment related to steam fitting and utility maintenance

Pay
Hourly Range: $24.38 - $33.00 USD hourly. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
Schedule
This position consists of 75% of outdoor work. It requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis and occasional travel. 24-hour emergency on-call responsibilities are part of the role.
