Stationary Engineer | Le Bonheur Children's Hospital | PRN | Day Shift

About the Role

The O&M Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the O&M building site by investigating and resolving complex problems related to cooling, heating, and pressure flow. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes results from testing and treatment of all mechanical and generating equipment.
• Repairs, adjusts, calibrates electrical and electronic control systems, electrical power distribution equipment, computer systems, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration, and steam systems.
• Diagnoses trouble calls and determines appropriate action to be taken.
• Updates procedures to reflect changes in codes and regulations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• 5-7 years of operational/maintenance experience in a high-pressure steam plant environment.
• Must be able to pass a DOT background check based on work facility.
• Must possess a high degree of skill and proficiency in all areas of general physical plant engineering operations and maintenance, acquired through on-the-job training, supplemented by educational and vocational courses, or related experience.
• Must be knowledgeable of system operations, including emergency procedures, electrical, electronics, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, computerized monitoring and control systems, and other specialized equipment or control systems common to plant operations.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
• Ability to organize and maintain control of workflow.

Qualifications

• First-Class Refrigeration Engineer - Shelby County (Required)
• First-Class Steam Operating Engineer - Shelby County (Required)
• EPA Universal Certification - Environmental Protection Agency (Preferred)
• First Class Proficiency Contractors License - Shelby County (Preferred)

Physical Demands

• Exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
• Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
• Occasional travel outside hospital.
• Exposure to noise: occasionally sufficient noise to require shouting to be heard above ambient noise level.
• Exposure to hazards: proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or chemicals.
• Physical activities include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
• Must have good balance and coordination.
• Medium work: exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
• Close visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading.
• Activities occur both inside and outside.
