About the role
This position supports the CDPH’s mission and strategic plan by performing a variety of skilled work in the operations, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, ventilation, lighting, power, water treatment, and other mechanical systems in support of the CDPH, Richmond Campus. The Stationary Engineer may instruct and/or lead other Stationary Engineers, Maintenance Mechanics, Building Maintenance Workers, and Service Assistants. The incumbent may also direct contractors in support of infrastructure and equipment repairs and works under the general direction of the Chief Engineer II.
Stationary Engineers are provided with uniforms and free laundering. Ongoing opportunities for technical growth and professional development are available.
Responsibilities
- Perform operations, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, ventilation, lighting, power, water treatment, and other mechanical systems.
- Instruct and/or lead other Stationary Engineers, Maintenance Mechanics, Building Maintenance Workers, and Service Assistants.
- Direct contractors in support of infrastructure and equipment repairs.
Requirements
- Medical Clearance
- EPA Section 608 Technician Certification
Pay
Salary range: $6,088.00 - $7,707.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
- Night Shift Pay Differential: Shifts required to work 4 or more hours between 10pm and 6am are entitled to an extra $2/hour.
- Greater Bay Area Recruitment and Retention: Provides 5% above the base rate for each qualifying pay period.
- EPA Section 608 Technician Certification: $100/month for the required certification.
In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown do not reflect this salary reduction.
