Stationary Engineer
About the role
Maintain safe and efficient operation of the boiler house including boilers, air compressors and water treatment plant while delivering the required steam, air pressures and volumes.
Responsibilities
- Operation of the boiler house (which includes tanks, pumps, compressors, lines, valves, and all equipment within the plant) in a safe manner in line with agreed procedures.
- Proper communication and documentation as required for the operation of the plant to always ensure maximum output and quality of product when in operation.
- Inventoriable control in the Caustic and Hydrochloric acid tank farms and all other chemicals involved with the process.
- Maintains a high level of housekeeping in the work area including the caustic and acid tank farm.
- Makes appropriate adjustments to the equipment used in the process to maintain required steam quality and maximize efficiency.
- Immediately reports any accidents or hazardous incidents and prepares the plant for maintenance using proper LOTO and SWP (Safe Work Permit) procedures when required.
- Performs regular plant safety inspections/audits and writes/enters work orders for all required repairs.
- Responsible for providing training to new and/or relief personnel.
- Utilizes computer control and monitoring systems so that proper setpoint adjustments and related process peripheries are correctly adjusted to assure standard operation, quality and efficiency.
- Performs analytical measures as required to always assure demineralized water quality and steam blowdown amount.
- Performs any other non-routine duties as directed by management or supervision.
Requirements
- H.S. Diploma or GED – must be able to read, write, and communicate verbally.
- City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License.
- Minimum of one year experience operating high pressure steam boilers.
- Knowledge and experience in using personal computers and computer-run equipment.
Qualifications
- Must be able to perform physical demands of the job including but not limited to: standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.

Pay
The rate for this position is $42.28/hr.
