About the role

Under the direction of the Caltrans Maintenance Manager I, the Stationary Engineer will maintain and operate HVAC systems, boiler/heater systems, electrical components, interior and exterior lighting, transformers, fire pumps, water pumps, air compressors, motors, and other mechanical systems for Caltrans yard and maintenance buildings. The role includes testing anti-backflow devices annually on Caltrans highways and properties, and working with single and multi-phase electrical circuits up to 550 volts.

The incumbent may be required to work overtime, irregular shifts, alternate work schedules—including nights, holidays, and weekends—and respond to emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain HVAC systems, including ventilation for office and maintenance buildings
• Maintain boiler/heater systems
• Service electrical components and lighting (interior and exterior)
• Test and maintain transformers and fire pumps
• Conduct annual testing of anti-backflow devices on Caltrans highways and properties
• Maintain water systems, water pumps, and air compressors
• Service all types of motors and electrical circuits up to 550 volts
• Respond to emergency situations as required

Requirements

• Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with Class "C" endorsement
• Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview/appointment
• If basing eligibility on education, unofficial transcripts/diploma must be provided (foreign transcripts require U.S. equivalency evaluation)
• Eligibility for hire may be determined by score on the STATIONARY ENGINEER exam (required for new state civil service employees)

Pay

• Range A: $6,088.00 - $7,707.00 per month
• Range B: $6,696.00 - $8,477.00 per month
• New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range

Schedule

• Permanent, full-time position
• In-office work location (Orange County)
• May require overtime, irregular shifts, nights, holidays, weekends, and emergency response
