Job Summary

Perform all types of work involved in the construction, maintenance, rebuild, removal, operation, testing and inspection of energized or de-energized generation, transmission and distribution facilities. Assist in responding to emergency call-outs on station trouble and coordinating prompt restoration of service to customers as required.

What You'll Do:

  • Work on energized equipment up to 260 volts.
  • Auxiliary tasks such as disassembling and reassembling, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing station transformers, circuit breakers, portable substations, rotating machinery, network protectors, transformers, air ducts and heat exchangers; installing and maintaining station batteries; replacing nitrogen bottles and air filters.
  • Assist in station work such as installing conduit, pipe, cable and wire; using hand lines to pass tools and materials; digging and backfilling trenches; removing and spreading stone; uncrating equipment and material; installing and removing portable substation fences, barriers and safety signs; painting structures and equipment; climbing station structures.
  • Using various kinds of tapes, insulating materials, protective and insulating paints and varnishes, and understanding proper application of each.
  • Assisting in visual inspections such as checking lights, heaters, circuit breaker counters, oil levels, and bus connections; reading gauges such as voltmeters, ammeters, hydrometers, pressure and level gauges; applying start-run-stop tests on emergency generators, water and sump pumps, and fire engine motors.
  • Replacing lamps, switches, duplex outlets, dry cells; installing and maintaining signal and communication systems.
  • Assisting in various tests involving oil samples, connecting and operating portable and stationary oil handling equipment. Assisting in electrical tests, TTR, Doble, core megger and resistance for transformer testing, etc.
  • Assisting in station switching including use of radio communication and/or direct instruction from higher classification, assisting in checking equipment clearances and making de-energized tests, placing grounds as directed.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in steel and aerial lift rescue.
  • Maintaining records and preparing and submitting reports as required.
  • Attending and participating in training and assisting in the training of other employees as assigned.
  • Using and operating various company vehicles, specialized equipment, hand and power tools.
  • Operating company vehicles, cranes, aerial lifts and specialized equipment. Performing duties incidental to the operation of such equipment.
  • Using hand and power tools; operating portable generators, blowers and pumps; inspecting and storing personal protective equipment.
  • Performing similar or less skilled work as assigned.
  • Assisting employees of equal or higher classification; directing the work of employees assigned to assist.
  • Becoming familiar with the Company's safety rules and practices and in the application of resuscitation and First Aid as presented in the Company's Safety Manual.
  • Performing duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules and operating regulations and practices.

What You Will Need:

  • Education requirements: Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Work Experience requirements: No previous work experience required.
  • Other requirements: Available to work overtime, call-out overtime and shift work, as required. Travel requirements are expected > 50% of the time. Physical demand requirements include lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, carrying up to 60 pounds for 20 feet, lifting up to 50 pounds to chest level, lifting up to 30 pounds to eye level, walking half a mile, climbing and working on ladders up to 50 feet high, and ascending to and working in buckets/lifts up to 100 feet high.
