Job Summary
Airbus Commercial Aircraft is seeking a Static Stress Engineer to join their Engineering department based in Wichita, Kansas. The role supports the fleet in-service repair of aircraft structures and justifies repair solutions from a Static Stress perspective.
Duties
- Perform static analysis for both metallic and non-metallic parts
- Work closely with design and fatigue colleagues to provide repair solutions
- Use both classical hand calculations and computer techniques to develop efficient repair solutions
- Assess structural integrity requirements using standard hand and computer methods
- Verify structural integrity requirements through durability and damage tolerance analyses
- Support airline customers and internal customers within given time scales
- Liaise with Design, Fatigue and other appropriate Airbus departments to optimize design solutions
- Ensure final repair solutions bring the aircraft back into an airworthy condition
- Identify and support local improvement initiatives to enhance team efficiency
- Plan, monitor, and execute tasks and activities to meet customer time scales
- Provide responses for routine repair queries

Located on the Wichita State University (WSU) innovation campus, Airbus' first dedicated engineering facility outside of Europe, this role offers a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Your Challenges
- Create high-quality integrated and certified engineering repair solutions
- Perform stress/strength analyses to ensure structural integrity requirements are met
- Assign tasks including structural sizing/documentation and certification documents
- Collaborate with Design, Fatigue and other departments to optimize design solutions
- Ensure final repair solutions bring the aircraft back into an airworthy condition
- Support local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency
- Plan, monitor, and execute tasks to meet customer time scales
- Provide responses for routine repair queries
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical) with a strong curriculum emphasis on structural design and analysis and mechanics of materials
- 5+ years total analysis experience in airframe design/repair programs
- In-depth knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods
- Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively
Physical Requirements
- Onsite or remote: Onsite a minimum of 90% of the time at the Wichita Engineering office
- Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings; daily
- Hearing: able to hear in order to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear safety warnings or alarms; daily
- Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications; daily
- Equipment Operation: able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment; daily
- Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs; once a month
- Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs; once a month
- Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools; once a month
- Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer; daily
- Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving
- Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices; daily
- Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces; daily
- Personal Protective Equipment: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
