About the role

Wilderness Road State Park, located in Ewing, Virginia, is hiring for a seasonal Maintenance Ranger position. This role is ideal for responsible, results-oriented individuals who are comfortable working without direct supervision, skilled at prioritizing tasks, and interact positively with the public.

Responsibilities

• Perform recurring grounds care, facility, and equipment maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities.
• Clean park facilities; mow grass; rake/remove leaf litter; handle trash and litter removal; paint; perform trail work and maintenance.
• Use common hand tools.
• Work with other staff and volunteers on projects and special events.
• Provide information and customer service to park guests as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of hand and power tools.
• General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies.
• Ability to organize and perform routine cleaning and maintenance functions.
• Experience providing excellent customer service and willingness to work in a team environment.
• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Must have a Virginia driver's license.
• Must be willing to work evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Preferred experience includes small engine repair, equipment operation, carpentry, and building trades.

Pay

Hourly rate: $13.00

Schedule

Seasonal position limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30. Not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.).

• Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
