James River State Park is seeking applications for the Housekeeping Ranger position.

About the role

The primary focus of this position includes proper and prompt cleaning of cabins, restrooms, campground bathhouses and other park structures, efficient turnover of overnight facilities before check-in time, and the ability to work independently. This position will be responsible for inventorying cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest. The Housekeeping Ranger performs light maintenance and cleaning tasks necessary to operate state park facilities.

Responsibilities

• Clean cabins, restrooms, campground bathhouses, and other park structures
• Ensure efficient turnover of overnight facilities before check-in time
• Inventory cabin supplies to ensure availability for guests
• Perform light maintenance and cleaning tasks
• Work independently and as needed during emergencies or on a non-recurring basis for other park-related duties

Requirements

• Must be 17 years old
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Weekend and holiday work required
• Employees may be required to perform other park-related duties during emergencies or on a non-recurring basis
• Valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency
• Selected candidate(s) will need to complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form
• Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check, including a criminal history record check

Qualifications

• Cleaning and supervisory experience preferred but not required
• On-the-job training provided

Pay

Hourly Rate: $13.00 per hour

Schedule

• Seasonal position with a limit of 1,500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30
• No health benefits or paid vacation leave

  • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights (two-night minimum stay required)
  • Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts included; one-night yurt stays receive a 25% discount
