State Board Prep Cosmetology Educator

State Board Prep Cosmetology Educator focused on preparing students for the Florida State Board licensing examinations and developing their technical knowledge, professional skills, and career readiness in the beauty industry.

Responsibilities

• Teach and review cosmetology theory and technical concepts using curriculum and state-board preparation materials.
• Prepare students for the Florida cosmetology licensing examination through structured lessons, exam reviews, practice questions, and mock examinations.
• Reinforce essential subjects including infection control, safety and sanitation, anatomy and physiology, hair care, haircutting, hairstyling, haircoloring, chemical services, skin care, nail services, and related cosmetology theory.
• Explain Florida licensing requirements, professional standards, and examination expectations.
• Evaluate student progress and identify areas requiring additional instruction or remediation.
• Coach students in effective test-taking strategies, time management, terminology, and application of theoretical knowledge.
• Demonstrate and reinforce proper professional behaviors, communication, guest service, and workplace standards.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and professional learning environment.
• Document student progress and communicate performance concerns or opportunities for improvement.
• Collaborate with other educators and campus staff to support student retention, graduation, licensure, and career readiness.
• Participate in educator training, meetings, student events, and professional-development activities.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, manage expenses within fiscal guidelines, and participate in team meetings.
• Align with the Aveda mission and environmental commitment.

Requirements

• Current Florida cosmetology license.
• 2+ years of professional cosmetology experience, preferably working behind the chair.
• Strong knowledge of Milady/Pivot Point cosmetology curriculum and Florida State Board examination requirements.
• Excellent communication, presentation, coaching, and classroom-management skills.
• Ability to motivate students with different learning styles and levels of experience.
• Passion for cosmetology education and helping students achieve licensure and career success.
• Flexible to work evenings and/or weekends as required.

Development Requirements (to be completed within 12-18 months)

Develop competencies in clinic floor management, classroom management, classroom facilitation, and advanced theoretical & technical skills by completing the following:

• Make-up modules
• Hair-color System modules
• Chemical Service modules
• Haircutting System modules
• Pass Make-up Certification
• Aveda Men's Certification
• Classroom Facilitator Certification

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and smell.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
