State and Local Tax Senior (Sales & Use Tax/Indirect Tax)
Responsibilities
- Execute and support sales and use tax engagements, including nexus studies, exposure reviews, taxability research, and other consulting projects
- Participate in client calls and internal working sessions; provide clear, timely project status updates and document next steps
- Utilize and improve workflows using artificial intelligence software provided by BT
- Absorb clients with sales tax technology enablement (e.g., automated sales tax software implementations), including data gathering, testing, and troubleshooting
- Support exposure mitigation efforts by reviewing analysis and workpapers for voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), audit support, and related planning recommendations
- Prepare well-organized workpapers, technical memoranda, and client-ready summaries that clearly communicate findings, assumptions, and recommendations
- Cook up day-to-day engagement workflow, including task management, prioritization, and coaching of junior team members as needed
- Stay current on state and local tax developments and contribute to practice growth through process improvement, internal knowledge sharing, and client service excellence
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of relevant state and local tax experience, with a focus on sales/use tax
- Familiarity with key sales and use tax concepts (e.g., nexus, taxability, VDAs)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to work with large data sets
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Actively pursuing or holding one of the following accreditations is preferred: Licensed CPA, Licensed Attorney, CMIA Master of Taxation, or LLM in Taxation
- Previous Big 4 or large CPA firm experience preferred
