About the role

The State & Local Tax (SALT) Manager position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing SALT practice. You'll work closely with clients and colleagues to navigate multi-state tax challenges while providing thoughtful, practical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage large state income tax compliance projects and identify tax savings opportunities and areas of risk.
  • Advise clients on state filing positions and requirements.
  • Coach, train, and mentor state and local tax staff as well as staff in other practice groups.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan, supervise, and execute holistic approaches to complex individual and commercial state tax issues.
  • Lead and oversee engagements from planning through delivery—setting timelines, supervising, and mentoring staff, and performing detailed technical reviews to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Act as a technical resource for Seniors, and Associates, as well as clients, in area of specialization and expertise; identify new technical issues in specialty area and take initiative to communicate with others on staff to increase awareness and understanding of the issue(s).
  • Deliver state and local tax advisory services, including refund reviews, nexus studies, taxability matrices, voluntary disclosures, tax minimization studies, and assist with business development opportunities.
  • Conduct sophisticated tax research, consulting, and analysis to plan transactions and to resolve compliance issues.
  • Participate in activities which support practice development and firm growth strategies and goals.
  • Aid shareholders and principals in identifying and proposing new work for existing clients and engage in professional activities such as writing and publishing articles, preparing, and delivering speeches, teaching courses or attending professional events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or related field or a combination of education and directly related work experience.
  • CPA or CMI and Masters in Taxation or LLM preferred.
  • Five to eight years of progressive State and Local Tax consulting and/or compliance experience in public accounting or a combination of corporate and public accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated successful experience as a supervisor.

Pay

$119,000 minimum to $164,657 maximum salary range
