About the role

The State and Local Tax - Income and Franchise Manager position is available in New York, NY, with additional approved locations in Melville, NY.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, direct, and monitor multiple client services teams on client engagements;
  • Plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects in a wide variety of industries;
  • Provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients;
  • Manage budget;
  • Deliver a full range of State and Local Tax services including tax return preparation and review, tax research, preparation of technical memorandums, drafting client correspondence, and counseling clients in defending against state audits;
  • Manage multi-disciplinary, multi-state reviews that analyze income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, valorem taxes, and others to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, credits and incentives, and corporate structures that can reduce the client's tax burden;
  • Consult, work with, and service clients to make recommendations on business and process improvement and serve as a business advisor to clients;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting;
  • Minimum six years of progressive tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience;
  • Active CPA license, JD with active law license in good standing, or Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Managers are required to manage various project tasks, at the same time Project managers will be ultimately responsible for the overall project and deliverable;
  • Support business development activities, such as identification, proposal development, and other pursuit activities at clients;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Can travel as needed.

  • Technical skills in tax planning, consulting, and compliance;
  • Experience in managing and leading tax projects;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations.

Benefits

At Grant Thornton, we offer a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $138,000 to $172,500, with placement within the range at the discretion of the firm. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, an employee assistance program, paid sick leave, and participation in the firm’s 401(k) savings plan and employee retirement plan. Additionally, we offer a discretionary, annual bonus based on individual and firm performance.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is between $138,000 and $172,500. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton’s discretion, and it is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity.

Schedule

This position requires in-person attendance at least three days per week, either at a GT office or client site. Consistent with the firm's hybrid work model, this position will require in-person attendance at least three days per week, either at a GT office or client site.
