About the role

Serves as the Standardized Patient Program Manager for STEPS, providing educational and technical expertise in organizing, developing, and implementing standardized patient (SP) teaching and assessment activities for healthcare professionals. The position develops training materials, conducts training sessions for SPs, monitors and documents SP performances, and provides timely feedback. Additionally, the Program Manager oversees the GTA/MUTA/SPETA physical examination program.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day operation of the Standardized Patient (SP) program.
  • Oversees the recruitment and selection processes for SP candidates and conducts orientation sessions.
  • Maintains documentation of SP files including contact information, case experiences, training history, feedback, and remediation.
  • Develops educational programs for SPs, conducts training sessions on case portrayal, exam procedures, checklist recognition, and delivers performance feedback.
  • Supervises and trains SPs in preparation for encounters and performs quality assessments of their work by evaluating outcomes.
  • Oversees and coordinates SPs in teaching and assessment activities.
  • Manages and coordinates the electronic, logistical, and materials aspects of SP activities including cases, assessment tools, SP assignments, schedules, and student coordination.
  • Identifies and monitors areas of SP performance improvement, provides ongoing coaching and direction, remediates SPs as necessary, facilitates debriefing sessions, and develops solutions to ensure standardization.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop, review, and validate SP cases and assessments to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Attends and participates in organizational workshops to stay current on educational theory and practice in the use of simulation and standardized patients in medical education.
  • Develops training materials for SP case portrayal (affect, history, physical examination, communication feedback, etc.) including scripts, checklists, and guides.
  • Conducts training sessions for recruited SPs.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary sessions with other simulation team members involving SPs, task training, and manikins.
  • Participates in program quality improvement initiatives for the SP program and STEPS.
  • Monitors SPs in real time and provides immediate feedback as appropriate.
  • Provides SPs with timely feedback on performance and remediation as needed under the guidance of the ADE.
  • Collects student evaluations of SP sessions from course coordinators.
  • Assists ADE in evaluating and ensuring program quality and determining areas of improvement, including reviewing video recordings for quality assurance.
  • Assists in collecting data for research purposes.
  • Participates in appropriate conferences and seminars for professional development.
  • Schedules or ensures scheduling of SPs according to required demographic and experience level.
  • Maintains SP database and scheduling software to ensure proper match of SPs to activities.
  • Works with Simulation Information Specialists to develop materials in LMS (LearningSpace) in preparation for activities.
  • Participates in the electronic recording of training sessions and examinations.
  • Manages the Gynecological Teaching Associates (GTA), Male Urological Teaching Associates (MUTA), and Standardized Physical Exam Teaching Associates (SPETA) programs.
  • Serves as recruiter and ambassador for the SP program housed within STEPS.
  • Oversees and operationalizes various aspects of the SP program.
  • Assists with budget development for the SP program and oversees expenditures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Healthcare, Public Health, Administration, or related field.
  • Two (2) years’ teaching experience.
  • Two (2) years of Program Management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education, Healthcare, Public Health, Administration, or related field.
  • Experience with computer software programs or ability to learn (Microsoft Word, Epic, LearningSpace, SOLE, E-Value, etc.).

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

  • Simulated clinical setting.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
