About the role
The thermal design team supports programs across the sector, including the airborne, ground mobile, ground stationery, and surface based naval applications, and across a variety of length scales ranging from ECS systems, EO/IR sensors and radar systems, chassis, CCAs, and device levels. This role has expectations to perform on existing production contracts, and for candidates with qualified experience the possibility for work in basic research is available.
Responsibilities
- Perform electronics thermal analysis, requiring subject matter expert level experience in at least one thermal management technology. Examples include liquid cooled, air-cooled, two-phase flow, heat pipes, and refrigeration thermal solutions for Mission Systems platforms such as airborne, ground based, and naval applications
- Lead thermal designs by owning thermal requirements derivation, thermal architecture, and thermal performance of the design, while mentoring less experienced thermal engineers
- Provide oral and written presentations to internal and external customers and stakeholders
- Opportunities to research and design advanced electronics thermal management solutions using heat transfer principles to meet optimal thermal performance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years of experience, master’s degree with 10 years of experience, Ph.D. with 8 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.
- U.S Citizenship is required
- The ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
- The ability to work onsite daily at the Linthicum, MD/Baltimore facility.
- 10 years of expertise in thermal engineering principles and applications
- 10 years of demonstrated experience in electronics design, with a focus on the thermal analysis and optimization of electronic systems and systems
- 10 years of demonstrated ability to propose, win, and deliver on government research contracts
Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with concentration in Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamics
- Experience advancing the state of the art for next generation electronics thermal design
- Knowledge of advanced modeling methods including Computational Fluid Dynamics to design by analysis experimental setup and develop analysis methods from experimental results
- Knowledge of advanced convective thermal management and design of single phase and two-phase thermal design for high heat flux/high power density applications using analytical, high fidelity, and experimental methods
- Prior experience leading the thermal design of systems, CCAs and microelectronics level thermal designs
- Extensive thermal design verification testing experience
