Staff Tax Accountant
About the role
We’re looking for a Staff Tax Accountant who enjoys doing excellent work, serving people well, and helping small business owners carry a little less of the burden. We believe accounting and tax work should create clarity—not confusion. We help small business owners build a solid financial and compliance foundation so they can spend more time pursuing what matters: their people, their purpose, and the work they were created to do.
We’re looking for someone who cares about the details and the people behind them.
Responsibilities
- Preparing federal and state individual and business income tax returns
- Assisting with tax planning and compliance throughout the year
- Reviewing client financial information and identifying items that need clarification or follow-up
- Researching tax questions and communicating findings clearly
- Working with clients to gather information and relieve the burden of the tax process
- Collaborating with teammates to deliver accurate, timely, consistent work
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes and the client experience
- Taking ownership of your work while asking for help when you need it
Who we think will flourish here
Technical skill matters, but character and fit matter too. You may enjoy the position if you are:
- Detail-oriented without losing sight of the person behind the numbers
- Humble, curious, and willing to keep learning
- Proactive and dependable
- Comfortable taking ownership and being accountable for your work
- A clear, kind communicator
- Someone who values teamwork over competition
- Interested in serving small business owners and helping them make better decisions
- Drawn to a workplace that values stewardship, trust, transparency, empowerment, healthy margin, and meaningful relationships
We're shaped by a Christian understanding of work, stewardship, and service. We want to be a place where people are treated with dignity and where our work contributes to their flourishing. We also recognize that people come from different backgrounds and beliefs, and we seek to engage those differences with truth, love, and respect.
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of tax preparation/accounting experience
- Experience preparing 1040, 1065, 1120S, and 1120 returns
- Working knowledge of federal and state tax requirements
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate accounting and tax matters in plain language
- Experience with Intuit products preferred
- CPA or EA credential preferred
Pay
Salary range: $65,000–$95,000 annually, depending on relevant experience, credentials, and the responsibilities ultimately assigned to the role.
We want compensation conversations to be clear and respectful. If the role progresses to an offer, we’ll explain how the offer was determined rather than making compensation a guessing game.
Benefits & the way we work
- Retirement plan and company contribution
- Paid time off
- Paid holidays
- Flexible scheduling
- Remote / hybrid / in-office arrangement
- Professional development and CPA/EA support
- PASBA model firm regulating monthly client work to mitigate tax season burnout
We also believe margin and health are important. That doesn’t mean tax season is never busy—it does mean we want to build a sustainable workplace where people can do excellent work without treating exhaustion as a badge of honor.
