Primary Duties
- Perform field survey work to determine the precise location and measurement of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours.
- Absorb and assist with construction staking, including the layout and installation of stakes.
- Set up, operate, and care for survey instruments, data collectors, calculators, GPS equipment, and related field tools under the direction of the Party Chief.
- Keep accurate field notes, records, cutsheets, sketches, and electronic data that clearly describe the survey work performed.
- Absorb and assist with survey calculations, field procedures, and the planning of methods for assigned survey tasks.
- Read and interpret plans, maps, deeds, records, and survey information needed to perform field assignments.
- Research and help locate prior survey evidence and physical evidence in the field.
- Clear brush lines and access survey locations as needed while following company safety practices.
- Maintain survey equipment, tools, supplies, batteries, and assigned vehicles so the crew is prepared for each day of field work.
- Communicate field progress, site conditions, discrepancies, safety concerns, and project issues promptly to the Party Chief or Survey Department Manager.
- Cookordinate field findings with survey staff, project managers, and clients when directed.
- Accept responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, and timely completion of assigned field tasks.
Secondary Duties
- Prepare or revise survey drawings and documents using company CAD standards, templates, and blocks.
- Prepare cutsheets using field data and available design information.
- Absorb and assist with check plots and address red-line markups promptly and completely.
- Absorb and assist with computations and quality-control reviews related to survey plats, record plats, and other survey deliverables.
- Absorb and assist with engineering design support and report preparation when directed.
- Keep the Office Coordinator, Field Coordinator, Party Chief, and Survey Department Manager informed of assigned task status, concerns, and milestones.
- Perform other survey-related field or office duties consistent with the employee’s training and the needs of the department.
Field Work Emphasis and Working Conditions
- This is primarily a field position.
- Regular and reliable availability for field assignments is an essential expectation of the job.
- Work may occur outdoors in rugged or uneven terrain, dense brush, poison oak, dust, heat, cold, rain, wind, traffic areas, and other changing site conditions.
- The employee must be prepared to walk, stand, bend, carry field equipment and supplies, and perform physical survey support tasks throughout the workday, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Project schedules may require early starts, travel to job sites, overtime, or work beyond the normal schedule.
Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in land surveying or engineering field required.
Required Qualifications (skills/experience/certifications)
- 1-3 years of field survey experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Trimble Business Center and Trimble Access.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Self-motivated and able to take initiative.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and individually.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Progressive mindset, motivated to accelerate the company forward.
Preferred Qualifications (skills/experience/certifications)
- LSIT or on path towards completion of LSIT.
- Office survey experience is a plus as opportunities for drafting and preparing calculations may be available.
