About the role

The Staff Structural Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of transmission and distribution projects across multiple clients in the public and private sector. The position involves working with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting structural plans and specifications according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. The role also includes performing structural design from the conceptual phase through design completion.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify structural plans and specifications for various transmission and distribution projects.
  • Design structural components for project needs and requirements as per project managers' guidelines.
  • Apply strong knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices, including common codes and procedures.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Review and verify corrections in production drawings using multiple CAD-related software.
  • Prepare information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the structural engineering practice, mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines and ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of structural engineering experience required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program, successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of structural engineering experience required.
  • Master’s Degree of Science in Structural Engineering and 2 years of structural engineering experience required.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong computer skills include structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D), AutoCAD, and MathCAD.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred experience with structural engineering for electrical substations.
  • Experience with full lifecycle EPC project delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE 7) including ASCE Manual of Practice (MOP) 113.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
