About the role

The Staff Civil Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of transmission and distribution projects. The position involves working with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. Responsibilities include performing civil design from the conceptual phase through design completion, modifying and reviewing production drawings, and applying strong knowledge of civil engineering/design concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Create and adapt civil plans for new projects, alterations and redevelopments.
  • Design civil components for project needs and requirements as set by project managers.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Write specifications and compile information for client presentations, shop drawings reviews, and contracts.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the civil engineering practice.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes.
  • Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
  • Comply with company and site safety policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of civil engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.
  • Or Bachelor’s degree in civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program, successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of civil engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.
  • Or Master’s degree in civil engineering and 2 years of civil engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MathCAD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, civil analysis programs (e.g. HEC-RAS, HydroCAD).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred experience with civil-site design, grading, or related engineering disciplines for electrical substations.
  • Experience with utility or power industry standards and practices.
  • Experience preparing permits for regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with full lifecycle EPC project delivery.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.

Qualifications
