About the role

The Staff Civil Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across a variety of transmission and distribution projects. You will collaborate with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans to meet budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil design from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for transmission and distribution projects.
  • Design civil components based on project requirements set by project managers.
  • Apply strong knowledge of civil engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Research and compile project-related data, studies, and reports; write specifications.
  • Conduct quality reviews of production drawings and project data using CAD software.
  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contracts.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and company/site safety policies.
  • Facilitate effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of civil engineering experience (consulting preferred).
  • Or Bachelor’s degree in civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of civil engineering experience (consulting preferred).
  • Or Master’s degree in civil engineering and 2 years of civil engineering experience (consulting preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment; demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MathCAD, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, teamwork, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with civil-site design, grading, or related engineering disciplines for electrical substations.
  • Experience with utility or power industry standards and practices.
  • Experience preparing permits for regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with full lifecycle EPC project delivery.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
