Staff Software Engineer (NY)

About the role

Ode is the team bringing frontier AI into practice, backed by Anthropic, Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, General Atlantic, Leonard Green & Partners, Apollo Global Management, GIC, and Sequoia Capital. Headquartered in SF with offices in NYC, Raleigh-Durham, and Dubai. This role is based in New York, NY with a work arrangement of 4 days in‑person, Fridays remote.

Responsibilities

• Work on a small, high‑caliber team (2–5 engineers and a PM) building AI products for clients.
• Set technical direction and write production‑ready code.
• Be the go‑to person when problems arise.
• Spend roughly 75% of time coding and 25% collaborating directly with clients (often CTOs) to understand problems, discuss trade‑offs, and ensure solutions meet their needs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience with a deep care for craft.
• Track record of shipping multiple complete products end‑to‑end and writing elegant, production‑ready code across disciplines.
• Specific interest in applying software engineering fundamentals to AI systems and balancing frontier model capabilities with good system design.
• Comfortable talking with senior technical stakeholders and navigating conversations skillfully.
• High ownership mindset – willing to jump in without instruction and embrace a “no job too big, no job too small” attitude.
• Low ego, high integrity – helps others, asks for help, and holds a high bar for honesty.
