Staff Software Engineer, Agents

Role Overview

The Software Engineer, Agents at Harvey is responsible for building systems that make our AI agents indispensable to legal professionals. Key responsibilities include:

• Partnering with customers and Product Managers to understand legal workflows.
• Designing practical evaluations to define what "excellent" means for legal workflows.
• Shipping agents that meet these standards and improve workflow efficiency.
• Optimizing agent performance through prompt engineering, model selection, tool design, skill writing, context window management, and eval harness development.
• Improving observability and instrumentation to profile agent behavior and drive optimization decisions.
• Staying current on new developments in agentic systems and applying these learnings to product development.

Requirements

Qualifications include:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience post-BS/MS.
• Proficiency in Python and experience working with Large Language Model (LLM) APIs and agent frameworks.
• Experience with shipping user-facing products, either on the backend or full-stack.

Pay

Compensation Range: $231,000 - $340,000 USD Depending on your location.
