Staff Software Developer

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture of new platform capabilities in an agile environment
• Build and maintain key services for Federated GraphQL API and event-driven architecture
• Drive internal service integrations by collaborating with engineering teams
• Support feature development in customer-facing applications, define scope, and contribute technical specs
• Develop and optimize gRPC endpoints, GraphQL APIs, and SQL queries
• Own observability practices including monitoring, alerting, and incident response
• Identify systemic risks and lead initiatives to mitigate reliability issues
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence

Qualifications

• 7+ years in a software engineering role
• Strong first-principles thinker with problem-solving abilities
• Proven experience managing complex systems end-to-end
• Proficient in a polyglot codebase (Elixir, Java, Rust, TypeScript)
• Expertise in designing and optimizing distributed systems
• Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design
• Strong experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
• Familiar with caching strategies and their scalability implications
• Experience with testing frameworks (ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest)
• Background in high-throughput or real-time domains like sports betting or financial services
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and AI
