Staff Scientist/Drilling Specialist

About the role

Wiley Drilling is seeking a highly motivated and versatile environmental specialist, geologist, soil scientist, or similar technical professional to join our team. Our ideal candidate is a geologist, environmental engineer/scientist, or civil/geotechnical engineer with 0 to 2 years of experience and a passion for hands-on fieldwork, particularly in environmental and/or geotechnical drilling.

Responsibilities

• Assist in drilling equipment operation for environmental and civil geotechnical investigations
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions (Approx. 90%)
• Travel to Wiley job sites (Approx. 75%)
• Utilize effective written and oral communication
• Perform staff-level scientist/engineer duties including soil and groundwater sampling, well design and construction, and lithology descriptions using USGS or USDA methodology
• Always be safety conscious

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science/Engineering, Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited College or University
• Valid Driver’s License and insurability under company policy required
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must successfully complete and pass a DOT drug and alcohol test prior to employment
• Must be able to obtain a Class B CDL with Airbrake Endorsement within the first 6 months of employment

Preferred Skills

• Experience in environmental consulting or civil/geotechnical fieldwork
• OSHA HAZWOPER Certification
• CPR/First Aid Training
• Class A CDL
• Experience operating heavy machinery
• Welding skills
• Problem solving

Work Environment

Fieldwork in various weather conditions. Will require travel to multiple sites or remote locations.
