Staff Registered Engineer - Mechanical Equipment - LNG Solution

About the role

As a Staff Registered Mechanical Equipment Engineer, you will provide mentoring, leadership, and technical expertise for custom engineered equipment used in the design and construction of Floating LNG, On-Shore LNG Export, LNG Peak Shaver, FPSO, or regasification projects. You will self-perform technical work while leading and managing a team of approximately 15 engineers. This role requires deep knowledge of ASME, API, NFPA, TEMA, and Off-Shore Marine Classification Agency Standards (DNV, Lloyd’s Register, ABS, etc.), along with the ability to perform analyses related to the design, specification, installation, and start-up of mechanical equipment. You will evaluate three-dimensional models, equipment layouts, and provide technical input to improve project designs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an equipment specialist to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer equipment for LNG and Floating LNG projects.
• Select and implement designs for compressors, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, vaporizers, tanker loading arms, fired equipment, and other packaged equipment.
• Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to identify technically acceptable design solutions.
• Utilize leading technologies in design development.
• Prepare equipment cost estimates and manhours for FEED and Detailed Design phases.
• Develop equipment data sheets and technical specifications for bidding and procurement.
• Conduct bid clarifications, meetings with bidders, and prepare technical bid evaluations.
• Review, interpret, and incorporate client technical specifications into bid and purchase documents.
• Lead and coordinate meetings with internal disciplines, external consultants, clients, contractors, subcontractors, and global vendors/fabricators.
• Participate in client project meetings and facilitate collaboration between U.S. and India-based design teams.
• Mentor junior engineers in North America and Asia to develop their technical skills.
• Lead pre-inspection meetings, perform shop surveillance, and attend inspections/testing for various equipment types at vendor shops.
• Participate in design/model reviews, HAZOP reviews, and constructability reviews.
• Perform vendor drawing reviews.
• Develop construction subcontracts for mechanical equipment and modularization efforts.
• Support onsite start-up and commissioning activities related to equipment as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally (10% to 25% of the calendar year).
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Active engineering registration or licensure to support Engineer of Record (EOR) requirements for projects in applicable countries.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Floating LNG, LNG Export, LNG Peak Shaving, FPSO, Off-Shore Oil & Gas, or Regasification projects.
• Experience in Hydrogen or other mid-stream process projects.
• Experience selecting and working with mechanical equipment in oil & gas and chemical process projects.
• Expertise in ASME Code (Section I, Section VIII Divisions 1 & 2) and NBIC Code for pressure vessel repairs, alterations, and re-ratings.
• Experience in stress analysis (WRC 537 & ASME Section VIII Div. 2 FEA).
• Familiarity with ASME Section V (Nondestructive Examination) and ASME Section IX (Welding and Brazing Qualifications).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for preparing mechanical equipment datasheets and drawings.
• Experience with AWS welding standards and welding symbols.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed project drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Experience with Compress Codeware Pressure Vessel Design Software and HTRI Software for Heat Exchanger Design (Shell & Tube, Plate, Air Cooled).
• Experience with equipment inspection and condition assessments per API 510, 571, 579, and 653.
• Knowledge of NACE MR 0175, NACE MR 0103, and API RP945 standards.
• Experience with machinery control systems, compressor anti-surge protection, performance PLC systems, turbine governor & overspeed trip PLC systems, and machine health monitoring systems.
• Experience purchasing equipment to API standards (541, 546, 610, 612, 613, 614, 616, 617, 670, 671, 682, 685, RP686, 692).
• Experience with ASME STS-1, API 521, 537, 560, and other fired equipment standards.
• Familiarity with NFPA 85, 86, and 87 standards.
• Experience with equipment inspection per API RP 573 and API 936.
• Experience attending and performing shop inspections of static equipment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Experience with equipment installation, commissioning, and start-up support at site.
• Experience in offshore fixed platform and floating vessel projects.
• Experience collaborating with global offices.
• Plant operations and maintenance experience.
