About the Role
This is a part-time Staff Psychiatrist (Safety) position located at California Men's Colony (CMC) in San Luis Obispo, CA. The role involves working 20 hours per week as part of an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team providing outpatient mental health services to inmates.
The position reports to the Senior Psychiatrist (Supervisor) and includes performing psychiatric evaluations, participating in treatment planning and case reviews, prescribing medications, providing crisis intervention and psychotherapy, and offering consultations and training to clinical and custody staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform psychiatric evaluations for inmates.
- Participate in treatment planning and case reviews.
- Prescribe and manage medications.
- Provide crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
- Offer consultations and training on treatment approaches to clinical and custody staff.
- Collaborate with an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric social workers.
Requirements

Pay
The monthly part-time salary range for this position is $15,129.50 to $15,568.00.
Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) reduces the base salary by 4.62% for eligible employees, with 8 PLP 2025 leave credits provided monthly for at least 16 months. Part-time employees are subject to prorated conditions based on their timebase.
Effective July 1, 2023, employees providing direct in-person patient care more than 50% of the pay period receive a 15% pay differential of their monthly base pay.
Eligible new hires may receive a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment, plus a monthly recruitment and retention differential totaling $5,000 during their first year.
CDCR/CCHCS employees may qualify for a $5,000 referral bonus if the referred candidate is hired and remains employed for 90 days.
