Staff Psychiatrist
About the role
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Staff Psychiatrist to join our team. This role is located at Wichita Falls State Hospital and is responsible for performing highly advanced psychiatric assessment work, administering psychiatric treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Conducts psychiatric assessments and administers treatments and medications according to State Hospital policies and procedures.
- Reviews and analyzes system data to ensure recovery plans are individualized and implemented by the recovery team.
- Attends and participates in meetings and committees to inform and create buy-in to necessary changes and follow through on implementation plans.
- Collaborates with other psychiatrists, medical staff, psychologists, and others to develop psychiatric interventions and participate in restraint reduction efforts.
- Maintains open communication with the Medical Director, Superintendent, and other staff to ensure the continuity of services.
- Manages acute psychiatric care including authorizing emergency restraints and writing orders for the emergency use of medication.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Applicants must have or be able to obtain an unrestricted Texas medical license and be board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry prior to the start date.
Qualifications
Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of general medicine and general psychiatry, principles of development, implementation, and documentation of person-centered individualized care and recovery plans, principles of psychiatric treatment, and ability to collaborate with staff.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of state formulary guidelines for maximum doses and ability to justify and document when the use of multiple psychotropic medications is necessary.
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and prescribe/supervise treatment to assigned patients while conforming to local policy, Texas Administrative Code, and applicable laws to decrease psychiatric symptoms/disorders.
- Ability to direct psychiatric activities, examine, diagnose, and treat mental disorders, interpret psychological diagnoses and analyses, and develop policies and procedures.
- Ability to organize and present information effectively, both orally and in writing.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $20,971.00 - $23,120.50 per month.
Schedule
This position works on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
