Staff Psychiatrist

About the Role

The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health services within a correctional facility. This includes conducting psychiatric assessments, diagnosing mental disorders, developing and implementing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and providing brief psychotherapy.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric assessments and diagnose mental disorders.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications and provide brief psychotherapy.
• Respond to psychiatric emergencies and perform crisis interventions.
• Determine the need for higher-level care when necessary.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals and correctional staff to ensure integrated, holistic care.
• Provide guidance on mental health issues and crisis management to correctional staff.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Participate in case conferences and quality improvement initiatives.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and provide training to correctional staff on mental health topics.

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
• Unrestricted medical license to practice in the relevant state.
• DEA registration.
• Experience in psychiatric care, particularly in correctional or underserved settings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
