About the Role
The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health services within a correctional facility. This includes conducting psychiatric assessments, diagnosing mental disorders, developing and implementing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and providing brief psychotherapy.
Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric assessments and diagnose mental disorders.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and provide brief psychotherapy.
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies and perform crisis interventions.
- Determine the need for higher-level care when necessary.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and correctional staff to ensure integrated, holistic care.
- Provide guidance on mental health issues and crisis management to correctional staff.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Participate in case conferences and quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and provide training to correctional staff on mental health topics.
Qualifications
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
- Unrestricted medical license to practice in the relevant state.
- DEA registration.
- Experience in psychiatric care, particularly in correctional or underserved settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
