About the role

As our Staff Product Manager, Credit Underwriting, you'll own the strategy, roadmap, and models that deepen Dave’s proprietary underwriting engine, CashAI, and extend it across ExtraCash, Flex card, and future credit products. You'll report to our Director of Product Management and set the underwriting direction that other product managers, Data Science, Risk, and Engineering teams build against. Your decisions will determine whether a member gets access to money they need and whether Dave gets that decision right, shaping how we scale credit access to millions while managing business risk.

Responsibilities

  • Own the roadmap: Continually drive an ambitious underwriting strategy and multi-quarter roadmap across Dave’s portfolio of credit products to expand credit access to more members.
  • Build credit solutions that scale: Partner with Data Science, Engineering, and Product vertical owners to design, test, and scale a new multi-product underwriting platform.
  • Expand data advantage: Champion the expansion of new, differentiated credit signals beyond core bank data to continually strengthen CashAI performance.
  • Own the numbers: Own the KPIs that matter most to the underwriting function—take rate, loss rate, disbursement volume, and retention—and manage trade-offs to the business.
  • Drive speed to learning: Lead experimentation on underwriting and model changes, from hypothesis through rollout, with rigor before scaling company-wide.
  • Be a force multiplier: Mentor others on credit domain expertise and help raise the bar for how Dave evaluates and scales new underwriting approaches.
  • Shape what’s next: Partner with senior leadership to identify new underwriting-driven business opportunities—new products, partnerships, or data sources—that unlock growth.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product or credit risk management experience, including 5+ years focused on credit, underwriting, or risk in a consumer lending, fintech, or banking environment.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with underwriting models and decisioning strategy, including cash-flow-based or alternative-data underwriting.
  • Proven ability to set a multi-quarter or multi-year underwriting strategy that other product managers and teams execute against.
  • Strong quantitative and statistical fluency—comfortable partnering with Data Science on model design, validation, and monitoring.
  • A track record of navigating regulatory and compliance requirements for consumer credit products.
  • Executive-level communication skills, with experience presenting underwriting strategy and risk trade-offs to senior leadership.
  • Strong sense of urgency—you act as a business owner to move quickly to test, validate, and ship improvements without cutting corners on rigor.
  • Proven ability to use AI tools to accelerate underwriting analysis, model iteration, and decision-making.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Economics, Finance, or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience underwriting BNPL, installment, or card products.
  • Background in a credit risk, data science, or actuarial role prior to moving into product management.
  • Experience mentoring or informally leading other product managers.
  • Familiarity with Dave's core products (ExtraCash, Flex card, Dave Banking) or similar cash-advance and subscription-based lending models.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to tackle tough challenges, learn and grow from fellow top talent, and help millions of people reach their personal financial goals.
  • Flexible hours and virtual-first work culture with a home office stipend.
  • Premium Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance plans.
  • Generous paid parental and caregiver leave.
  • 401(k) savings plan with matching contributions.
  • Financial advisor and financial wellness support.
  • Flexible PTO and generous company holidays, including Juneteenth and Winter Break.
  • All-company in-person events once or twice a year and virtual events throughout to connect with your team members and leadership team.
