About the role
Vitalize is a rapidly growing company that aims to replace manual, inefficient hospital operations with intelligent, automated solutions. As the third product designer, you will play a crucial role in scaling design practices across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Own complex product surfaces that span multiple pods, including recommendation surfaces, AI-driven workflows, and data-intensive decision-support tools.
- Set standards for the design team, influencing how design rationale is written, how disagreements are resolved, and how customer feedback shapes product decisions.
- Work directly with customers to understand their needs and inform product development. Visit hospitals to observe operational workflows firsthand.
- Shape the growth of the design team, including hiring loops, critique culture, onboarding patterns, and design operating principles.
- Contribute to the design systems, including components, tokens, patterns, contribution models, documentation, and the relationship between Figma and the Tailwind codebase.
- Ensure that the design team's work leads to higher craft levels and faster design outputs, driving the overall quality of the product.
Requirements
- 8+ years of product design experience, preferably on complex, workflow-heavy B2B SaaS products.
- Experience shipping real features to real users and understanding the business impact of your work.
- Ownership of a design system or comparable infrastructure that other teams can build upon.
- Experience in setting the contribution model, not just the components.
- Comfortable spending time in the field to observe operational workflows firsthand and travel to customer sites regularly.
- Mature product instincts, focusing on workflow changes rather than UI improvements.
- Opinionated, evidence-backed, and direct approach to design decisions.
- Customer-obsessed mindset, able to name metrics and defend the connection between design and business outcomes.
- AI-fluency, having worked on a product surface where AI was doing real work and having an informed perspective on AI's role in the user interface.
- Enjoyment in critique, mentoring, and infrastructure work, as these activities enable others to produce high-quality work.
